Grant for equestrian arena

Senator Tom Morahan
Camp Venture’s dream of one day having an indoor equestrian arena for our extremely popular, successful and valued Therapeutic Equestrian Program has taken one giant step forward.

Senator Tom Morahan, Chairman of the New York State Senate’s Mental Health and Mental Retardation Committee and grandfather of a beloved granddaughter with special needs, has used his leadership to appropriate $200,000 towards the project.

This is not “pork” or an election ploy; it is a very enlightened investment that will save both lives and dollars. This program, along with the Venture Creative Arts Department’s program of music, dance and fine arts helps our consumers as much—if not more in some cases—than prescription medicine or talk therapy. Both seem to reach the inner person with comfort and joy.

The Venture riding program suffers painful constraints and disappointment because it is 100 per cent weather dependent. There can be no riding in the rain, snow or cold; an indoor arena will fix that. You can also help by going to to view our new Equestrian video and to make your donation.
