Rememberance and Rededication

The Camp Venture Pond, was officially re-dedicated and twinned with the Ash Pond in Auschwitz-Birkenau, Poland on October 2, in a ceremony that brought together people from across the community. The event whose purpose was to promote awareness, refection and renewal in the essential lessons of history, culminated a months-long fundraising effort to refurbish the Venture pond, add a new monument to celebrate the Twinning and build an accessible path, new benches and other improvement to make the site more functional to agency program participants.

Speakers included Dr. Margaret Fitzpatrick, President of St. Thomas Aquinas College and Camp Venture board of Directors member, Joseph Condon, Venture Foundation President and parent, Carol Bierman, adjunct professor and author on the history of the Holocaust, Cantor Marcy Kadin from Temple Beth Am and Paul Adler, community leader and event cosponsor. A film by Beth Robinson Robinson was also shown and there were musical performances by Margie Kadin and John Paul Reynolds and by the Venture Chorale which was lead by Sam Leopold and Arianna Pallens and which featured Isaac and Maria.

The event was created by Venture President, John Murphy who said that he hoped that it would bring people together in hopeful reflection and offer moral leadership. “Humanity, the Holocaust suggests, does not just happen. We have to work at it,” Murphy said. “That starts with asserting the value of the most vulnerable people among us and finding a reason to celebrate their lives.”

Our deepest thanks to all who made the Twinning event and the pond renovation possible.
