St Patrick’s Day 2015

St Patrick’s Day 2015

Sunday March 22, 2015 was a great day for the Irish but also for Camp Venture as an intrepid contingent of the agency’s finest strutted their stuff down Central Avenue in Pearl River, New York to a cheering crowd of onlookers. Second only to the New York City St. Patrick’s Day parade, the Pearl River celebration is the largest annual public event in Rockland County and a venerated part of the local culture.

The unseasonably cold early spring weather on this day was apparently not inhospitable enough to dampen the spirits of either the Venture group or the estimated 50,000 or so spectators that jammed the streets of “The Town of Friendly People” for the event. Leading the marchers was Camp Venture President, John Murphy, his wife Eileen and Board Member and Councilman, Denis Troy as the group was regaled by the crowd along every step of the parade route. “Yeah Venture!” could be heard from cheering onlookers as this band of the agency’s best marched from Crooked Hill Road to South Main Street all the way beaming with pride.

The parade was an opportunity for the Venture gang to show their stuff. It was also a chance to be seen and to share a day with with dignitaries like United States Senator, Charles (Chuck) Schumer and to assert their rightful place as essential and very visible, members of the community..

Many thanks to Terry Freson and the Recreation staff and to the parade’s organizers.
