Camp Venture Summer Camp

Founded in 1969 by a group of parents as “a place in the sun for special children”, Camp Venture is a Summer Day Camp for special kids and for kids who just like to feel special.

Located in Stony Point, NY, Camp Venture Summer Camp is an integrated, seven week program for Rockland County children (ages 5-12) with and without developmental disabilities. We also off er a young adult group for teens with developmental disabilities, ages 13 to 21.

Our seven-acre campground includes two swimming pools, a horse corral, a playground and a small farm with sheep, horses, mules and a host of other animals.

The camp day is from 10AM to 3PM, and a supplemental morning program is also available from 8:30AM to 10AM.

We offer a wide range of activities including swimming, horseback riding at our on-site facility, arts and crafts, creative experiences and noncompetitive sports. Special activities include a talent show, music performances, a petting zoo and themed days.

Boy and Horse at Summer CampOur dedicated staff includes professional educators, a full-time nurse and some of our community’s finest young people, who work as counselors in a tradition that spans our 40 years of operation. All counselors receive an intensive two-day training prior to each camp season.

Preference for this program is given to children who are not offered a 12-month school program. Camp Venture Summer Camp is not a therapeutic or treatment-oriented program. Our program is based on group engagement. Campers should be able to function in a group and benefit from group activities. Children are grouped by age, and though our staffing ratios are excellent, we do not provide one on one supervision.

Camp Venture Summer camp is free for children with developmental disabilities that meet the (OMRDD) eligibility criterion. Non-disabled children attend for a modest fee.

Limited bus transportation is available from stops in the most remote parts of Rockland County but mostly parents provide their own transportation.

A morning program is also available from 8:30 to 10:00 for working families for a modest fee.
